Easier DITB Navigation

February 15th, 2011 by Conor

Not that anyone is anxious to relive the last month anytime soon, but I wanted to make people aware of a site change that I just FINALLY implemented. It was bothering me that it wasn’t easy for me to go back to the beginning of the experience easily. If you go down to the way bottom of the page you will have a much easier time navigating to older pages. Also if you are looking for a specific piece that someone wrote just search it on the right side of the sidebar to find what you are looking for. That’s it for now.

Ipad Fun

February 7th, 2011 by Conor

Danny was lucky enough to score an Ipad during this adventure thanks to Jon and Claudia Goguen. He only got to really start enjoying it over the last week or so. Upon it’s arrival there wasn’t a whole lot that Danny could do with it other than to well, let us use it. So we had some fun with it one of the last nights that Auntie Julie and Tom were in town. Here is what resulted…

Thanks again to Jon and Claudia. Danny is now ear to ear with his new toy!

UPPING THE ANTE: DOUBLE YOUR DONATION CHALLENGE

January 25th, 2011 by Conor

I’m Joe Vitka, married to Dan’s mom Ellen Shea, I’d like to thank all of you that have been so supportive of Ellen and Dan through this rough patch; and I’d like to issue a FUNDRAISING CHALLENGE that applies to all those that have previously donated so generously and those that want to help.

UPPING THE ANTE: DOUBLE YOUR DONATION DOLLARS

I will match any and all donations, including those funds previously donated, on a 1-1 basis; example, should there be $12,340. already raised I’ll match that amount upon receipt of the checks to the Danny Toumarkine Assistance Trust up to a total of $25,000.. That means if Dan’s friends and buddies raise $25,000. I will match up to that amount, thus doubling what is raised.

So for those that ask what they can do here’s a chance to DOUBLE YOUR DONATION DOLLARS !!!!! Remember that if you send $100. I’ll match it thus making your $100. a $200. total donation; send $1,000. I’ll match making it your donation worth $2,000. Total limit I’ll match is a cumulative $25,000. Dig deep.

We have set up the Danny Toumarkine Assistance Trust to help Dan out; the bills are going to be massive, beyond what Dan’s health insurance will cover, and the rehab portion of recovery long and arduous. Anything that you can do will be greatly appreciated.

Please send donations to:

Danny Toumarkine Assistance Trust

Thanks

I Rock A Helmet Now!

January 21st, 2011 by Conor

I started riding again this year after 15 years of not being on the mountain. A lil bit after I started Danny’s accident happened. My mom knew his dad so I told her what happened, she then bought me a helmet. So what I’m getting at is with every negative there i a positive. Because of Danny I am riding with a helmet. Thought it only be right I rock it for him. Cause if this can happen to him with his skills, it can happen to anyone.

Strange Coincidences…

January 20th, 2011 by Conor

My roomate and good friend Will Mayo is heading up the Tahoe side of sticker making for the Danny is the Bomb efforts on the far West Coat. He just started making them a little earlier today to get them done in time for tomorrows ride at Northstar. He sent me a proof because I asked to see them just to make sure things were up to par. I wouldn’t have normally asked for a die cut sticker proof except that Will was using Danny’s sticker plotter and equipment. Danny has been teaching Will the ropes on how to make stickers.

The proof that I saw totally shocked me. Right off the bat my eyes were drawn to the red text on the metal ruler that Danny owns. I recognize the sticker very well. It says “I Ride For Kevin,” which was an advertising campaign that Burton headed up a year ago when one of their stars Kevin Pierce got hurt. How ironic that Will sends me a photo of a proof for Dannys awareness campaign when another campaign was on the ruler he is making the stickers with…. weird to say the least.

I noticed another irony when I originally watched Paul’s video of Danny laughing. In a few of the more obvious scenes Danny is wearing the I Ride For Kevin tee shirt.

I also have two of those “I Ride For Kevin” tee shirts and wear them from time to time. I wish that all those stickers and tee shirts made Danny and I buy helmets. There is a good chance that the helmet would have changed the outcome of this incident significantly. A crash like Danny took could have happened to either of us or any of our friends- that is still a shocker to me. The maneuver that took Danny out was simple, routine, and could have been done by any snowboarder having fun.

Do yourself a favor. If you are going to wear the tee shirt or the sticker to represent your love for Danny and to recognize this tragic event. Go one step further and get a helmet and rock that too.
